Online counselling for parents of neurodivergent children

Parenting a child with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) — including autism and/or ADHD, or where a diagnosis is still being sought — brings a whole host of additional challenges alongside the demands of everyday family life.

Acknowledging those challenges is not a judgement of your parenting, and it doesn't diminish your love for your child. It's simply a recognition of the extra care, support, and advocacy your child needs — and of the very real emotional and physical toll that takes on you.

You deserve support too.

Why do parents of neurodivergent children seek counselling?

Every parent and child is unique, but many of the parents I work with experience challenges such as:

  • Trying to stay calm and regulated when your child is frequently dysregulated — and the exhausting impact that has on your own nervous system

  • Coping with meltdowns, challenging behaviour, or aggression

  • Managing daily struggles around mealtimes, bedtimes, and transitions

  • Dealing with judgement from family, friends, and professionals

  • Feeling isolated, misunderstood, or disconnected

  • Navigating a stretched and complex SEND system, including EHCPs and inadequate CAMHS support

  • Relationship strain and conflict around different parenting approaches

  • Guilt about the time before your child's needs were fully understood

  • Grief for the future you had hoped for your family

  • Worry about your child's future and independence

  • Exploring your own neurodivergence, and what that means for you now

How can counselling help?

Many parents find that counselling supports them to:

  • Process difficult or conflicting emotions

  • Reduce stress and emotional exhaustion

  • Reconnect with their own needs

  • Build resilience and self-compassion

  • Strengthen boundaries and communication

  • Feel more confident in their parenting

An inclusive and respectful place

I offer a warm, non-judgemental, and inclusive space. I welcome clients of all genders, sexualities, ethnicities, faiths, abilities, and neurotypes, and I'm committed to working in a way that recognises the impact of power, inequality, and discrimination on people's lives.

Taking the next step

I know how hard it can be to prioritise yourself when so much of your energy goes to your child and family. The free 15-minute call is a gentle first step — a chance to ask questions, share a little of what's been going on, and see whether working together feels right. There's no obligation to go further.
